CURRENT PROJECTS AND COMMISSIONS |
|
Sea of Birds, Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, Philadelphia Pennsylvania “Sea of Birds” is an outgrowth of Mundheim’s commissioned work in interdisciplinary biographic portraiture. It is about the power and pleasure of the storyteller. It is about the lessons we extract both from encounters, and the departures from them. This story will parallel an Eastern European child’s memory of wartime and displacement camps with fantasy characters from an American child’s imagination. Using fragile sculptural puppets, dancers trained in Japanese movement, live music, light and video projection and a lyrical script. |

Urban Mourning Project, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia Pennsylvania In 2007-2008, Sebastienne Mundheim will work to create a year-long curriculum for 10-12 year olds who have experienced loss from violence. Using historical and cross cultural references to rituals and material culture related to grief and mourning, Mundheim is creating an interdisciplinary arts-based program to process grief and mourning, find expression, build community, and effect change in the lives of youth and the larger community. Out of the experience of reciprocal learning between youth and artists, Mundheim will create a professional, interdisciplinary performance/ installation to premiere in Philadelphia 2009. |
